For Clarifications Sake...

I know that I was a little vague the other day when I said that I need guest posters... I have had several people ask me if I am pregnant. That is NOT the case. I can assure you!!  I am having my tonsils out and other fun stuff that means while I am on a liquid diet for a few days, I can not have any beer. Any questions? No? Good.

I am looking at my FB fans for HBG... looks like most of my fans are women... that is pretty cool. I never thought that when I started writing about beer I would start caring so deeply about my audience... even when I don't hear from my audience often. I want to know who reads my blog, how I am affecting their day, and if my writing has influenced any choices that have been made. Do you sneak in a quick read on your lunch time? Do you save all your blog posts to read on Sunday mornings? That is what I spend my time thinking about, when I am not thinking about what beer to write about. I also think a lot about how I can make my page better, how I can be a better tweeter (is that right) and how am I ever going to find time to put HBG on Google Plus.

Well I was reading a post from Women Enjoying Beer about how to get your beer groove on, see what Ginger wrote here. I thought it was a great post, and perfectly timed. As I ask my family and friends for help with my blog in preparation for my upcoming lame surgery, I realize that I have hit a bit of a creative slump. Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's me being sick for like a month straight... whatever it is I want it to be over with. While I can't just give out free beer to everyone who reads my blog, and I can't throw an un-birthday party for you... I can think of things that make me enthusiastic about writing and being creative.

In the interest of not posting two posts back to back that don't have pictures, here is an obligatory picture:

That feels better!

Happy Birthday to me!!

That's right, today is my birthday! So what am I doing to treat myself? I am not sure yet... I am hoping that my evening involves a good beer (or more than one) and a good dinner cooked by someone else. I am finally feeling better than I have over the course of the last 3 weeks... sore throat is almost gone, and my congestion seems to have left me. I think that this will be a good birthday.

I should let you know that while my birthday is a good reason to do a post, I have to let you know that I will be trying to take advantage of some guest posts for the next couple of weeks. I am having surgery and will not be able to drink beer for a couple of weeks. While I am not excited about this prospect, I am looking forward to being able to taste beer like it was the first time again, and can't wait to showcase some of my friends and family and their beer experiences.

If you want to volunteer your thoughts for a guest post I would be very grateful!  Feel free to email me if you are interested, sarah@hoppybeergirl.com

Welcome 2012!!

I sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday and New Year. I know that I was fortunate to have the presence of my family and friends for Christmas, well until I got sick... That's right, I have had a sore throat/laryngitis for about two weeks now. No fun. That means not only do I sound like I should switch my profession to one that requires a 900 number and changing my name from Sarah to something like Bunny (no offense if your name is Bunny and you are not an erotic phone operator), but it also means that I haven't been able to taste anything for days... so I don't have a beer report for you. I really wanted to have something better for you than, I am sick and haven't had any beer.

What I can offer you today is some interesting facts about 2012. I thought about coming up with some lame New Years resolutions that wouldn't last a week, and I considered making a "Best of 2011" list... but that is pretty cliche.

The year 2012 is a leap year and started on a Sunday according to the Gregorian Calendar.

2012 is the year the Mayan calendar ends, and according to many the beginning of the end of the world. If you want to see more predictions and beliefs about 2012, this is a good article, then of course there is the feature film about 2012... I thought that the History Channel actually had some of the most interesting information on the prophecies surrounding 2012.

2012 is the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth of England's ascension to the throne. That is a long time to have any job, much less the job of queen! Also in London, the summer Olympics this year.

In August of 2012, NASA is estimating the new Mars Rover, Curiosity, will land on Mars, there is also good information here. The new rover was launched in November 2011.

The things that I am looking forward to the most in 2012 are all of the new beer events, and the new beers that will happen over the next 12 months. Is there anything that you are looking forward to, or any Mesoamerican prophecy you want to share? Feel free to email me at sarah@hoppybeergirl.com.

CHEERS to 2012!!!

I am hoping that I will be better this weekend... we shall see. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow about the whole sore throat forever situation, wish me luck.
